There is only love between Drake and The Pet Shop Boys!
In an interview with Rolling Stone published on Saturday, May 4, the British synth-pop band spoke out about what happened with Drake (whose legal name is Aubrey Graham) after they called him out in a 2023 post on X (formerly Twitter) for using their song “West End Girls” on his 2023 song “All the Parties” from his album For All the Dogs without asking for permission.
The duo’s vocalist Neil Tennant said that he found out from his brother that the rapper, 37, sang lyrics from their 1986 debut single on his song.

“We get a lot of requests, so I thought, maybe we agreed to this? But this, I thought we’d remember it,” Tennant, 69, told Rolling Stone, adding that his manager confirmed that they had not gotten a request or given the Canadian rapper permission.
“So we put up a social media post because we thought it was the best way to bring it to everyone’s attention,” Tennant continued, noting that the tactic worked because Drake’s team called their team in about 15 minutes and were “very apologetic.”
Drake reportedly wanted to speak with The Pet Shop Boys about it himself, but a meeting never happened.

“The whole publishing thing was sorted out,” Tennant said, adding, “I really like the track.”
Chris Lowe, the other half of the duo, said to his musical partner during the Rolling Stone Q&A: “I would like to know how Drake gets that vocal sound because I would quite like to hear you singing like that.”

“We need to know his trick. What is it — how does he do it? It’s a bit AutoTune, isn’t it?” Tennant said about the way Drake sounds when he sings the lyrics to “West End Girls.”
Tennant has helped The Pet Shop Boys make headlines lately for saying Taylor Swift’s songs are less iconic than Michael Jackson’s.
When Rolling Stone noted that some of the songs on Swift’s album 1989 sound like Pet Shop Boys music, Tennant said he likes “The Archer” from her 2019 album Lover, but “didn’t get that much out of” some of the work she’s done with Aaron Dressner.
“Taylor, I sort of don’t totally a hundred percent get it, really. But she’s obviously fantastically prolific, and I love the fact she’s re-recorded her early albums, to piss off whoever they got sold to,” he said.
