A publication earns trust by being checkable. This charter lists the commitments LiveTrue News World makes to readers. Some are already visible on the site in its launch edition; others describe how the newsroom intends to work as it grows. We say which is which, because a charter that overstated the present would defeat its own purpose.
1. We label what is illustrative
During the launch edition, every story, sample fact check and perspective piece is an illustrative scenario. Each article page carries a label saying so near the top. Numbers inside those scenarios are attributed to the fictional organizers they belong to, never to real companies, agencies or people. When the newsroom begins reporting real events, those stories will be marked differently and the illustrative label will be retired from them.
2. We show our sourcing
Stories should say what kind of source sits behind each important claim: an inspection record, a voting register, a published dataset, a first-hand account. Where a claim rests on one source, the story says so. Where a figure comes from the people running a project, the story attributes it to them rather than presenting it as independent fact.
3. We state limits
Every news or feature story includes a plain account of what is not yet known: the early stage of a trial, the cost of a technology, the places where an approach may not work. If a story cannot name a limit, that is a sign the reporting is unfinished.
4. We correct in public
Mistakes will happen. When they do, the correction appears at the top of the affected story and is logged in the Public Corrections Ledger with the date and a description of what changed. We do not quietly rewrite history.
5. We keep a public fact ledger
Claims we check are recorded in the fact ledger with a verdict label, a Veracity Meter score and a note about the type of evidence used. The scoring scale is published so that anyone can judge whether we applied it fairly.
6. We disclose how we are funded
At launch there is no revenue and no outside funding to disclose. The intended model is reader memberships and direct support, with no behavioral-tracking advertising and no sponsored headlines. When money starts to flow, we will publish where it comes from.
7. We protect reader privacy
The site does not require an account, does not run advertising networks, and stores your bookmarks and preferences only in your own browser. Our privacy page explains the details, including the third-party font and style files the pages load.
How to hold us to this
Read the Editorial Standards and the Fact-Checking Policy, then tell us where we fall short. Write to [email protected] for factual errors or [email protected] for everything else. A commitment that cannot be tested is only decoration.
