The Morning Spark

The planned daily briefing of fact-checked solutions, and what works today while it is being built.

The Morning Spark is the daily email we plan to send once the newsroom is up and running: a short briefing of fact-checked progress, with every story labelled and every claim traced to a type of source. It has not launched yet, and this page explains exactly what that means so you are never left guessing.

What it will be

  • A handful of stories chosen for evidence and usefulness, not for how loudly they were shared.
  • A plain statement of what is still unknown in each story.
  • One item from the public fact ledger, so that you see a claim being checked.
  • A link back to the full story on the site.

What does not exist yet

There is no mailing list, no sending service and no schedule. We are not collecting subscribers, and we will not claim any number of readers. A sign-up box on this site does not subscribe you to anything on a server.

What the form below does today

If you type your email address into the form on this page, it is saved in your own browser on this device so that you can see the form remember you. It is not sent to us or anyone else. That means we cannot email you, and it also means nobody else has your address. When the newsletter is ready, we will explain how to sign up properly with an address that is transmitted to a mailing service, and you will be asked to confirm.

How you can follow the site meanwhile

  • RSS: the site publishes feeds for all stories and for each desk, which any feed reader can follow.
  • Bookmarks: save stories on this device and find them again on the Saved page.
  • Read-aloud: use the Listen buttons to have your browser read a story or a short briefing.

Planned principles

When the Morning Spark launches, it will carry no tracking advertising, will not sell addresses, and will include a one-step unsubscribe link in every message. Because the plans are not live, treat these as intentions that we will confirm in the privacy policy before the first message is sent.

Questions

Write to [email protected], a placeholder address for this launch edition. Tell us what you would want in a daily briefing: your preferences will help us decide what to build first.
